Education and Experience

Skills and Specialties – Explantation Super Specialist

Dr. Strawn is a pioneer in the field of explantation, continuously striving to perfect a procedure that was previously regarded as the simple removal of breast implants. In 2003, under the tutelage of Dr. Scott Spear, President of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, Dr. Strawn performed his first autologous fat grafting and en bloc capsulectomy procedures. “It was at this moment that I realized fat grafting was such an amazing alternative to breast implants,” said Dr. Strawn. Over the last twenty years, this conviction has only strengthened.

Unsatisfied with the conversation surrounding breast implant removal, Dr. Strawn set out to create a compassionate space at Scultura Plastic Surgery for women who are unhappy with their breast implants. His empathetic approach ensures that his patients—previously met with disbelief by other physicians or incomplete surgical results—feel understood and cared for. He says, “Unfortunately, I am performing more and more revisions for patients who went to inexperienced explant surgeons. I often need to go back into the space and remove the left capsule, re-do mastopexies so that breasts match, repair muscles to correct ‘jumping breasts,’ and perform fat grafting to fill in unsightly creases and indentations.”

Dr. Stawn’s signature explantation procedure—the Total Correction Surgery—is a multi-step procedure designed to remove breast implants and restore the integrity of the breast tissue, providing a stronger structure for the longevity of the breasts. This innovatively inclusive procedure, combined with advanced autologous fat grafting techniques, enhances the appearance of explanted breasts in a natural augmentation. His total correction explantation is the work of decades of experience in breast revision procedures combined with compassionate treatment of the needs and concerns of his patients.
